Error Messages


If the disk-drive unit does not operate properly, an error number is displayed to the T.V. screen. Such cases should be handled as follows.

Error Number Cause Coping Methods
01 The disk drive may have failed or the disk may be defective. Please contact the nearest Nintendo Customer Service Office (address, phone number on page **) or the store where the item was purchased.
02 The eject button may have been partially depressed during disk access. Handle according to the instructions given for the particular game. See the game's user's manual for more information.
03 The disk drive may have failed. Please contact the nearest Nintendo Customer Service Office (address, phone number on page **) or the store where the drive was purchased.
04 The disk may be defective.
05 The clock may have temporarily stopped functioning. Handle according to the instructions given for the particular game. See the game's user's manual for more information.
If this error number appears repeatedly even though the date and time have been set, the internal lithium battery may be dead. Please contact the nearest Nintendo Customer Service Office (address, phone number on page **) or the store where the item was purchased.
11 The disk may be defective.
21 The disk drive may have failed or the disk may be defective.

31 The disk drive or the Nintendo 64 unit may have failed, or the disk may be defective.

41 The disk drive or the Nintendo 64 unit may not be properly connected. Properly connect the two components as described in 4. Connecting (2. Nintendo 64 Unit Connections) page **.

If this does not solve the problem, clean the 50-pin connector according to the instructions given in 9.50, Cleaning the PIN Connectors --> page **.

The 50-pin connector on the top of the disk drive or that on the bottom of the Nintendo 64 unit may be dirty or have something adhering to it.
42 Has a disk been inserted? Insert a disk in the disk drive.
The eject button may be partially depressed. Remove the disk and insert it again.
43 The disk drive may have failed. Please contact the nearest Nintendo Customer Service Office (address, phone number on page **) or the store where the drive was purchased.
44 A Terminator Pak may still be inserted in the 36-pin memory-expansion connector on top of the Nintendo 64 unit. Ensure proper connection as described in 4., Connecting (1. Memory Expansion Pack). page **.
47 A different disk than that requested on the T.V. screen may have been inserted. Replace the inserted disk with that requested on the T.V. screen. For more information, see the user's manual for the game.
48 The clock may have temporarily stopped functioning. Set the date and time as described in 8., Setting the Date and Time.

49 The disk may have been removed during access. Handle according to the instructions given for the particular game. See the game's User's Manual for more information.
The eject button may be partially depressed.
50 The eject button may have been partially depressed during disk access. Remove the disk and press the reset switch.
51 The disk may have been removed during access. Remove the disk and press the reset switch.
